This piece was designed to celebrate the Jubilee, the 50th year anniversary celebration of Pope Pius IX's ordination as a Bishop. The manufacture of the shadowbox was blessed by the Pope who served from 1846 - 1877. Accordingly, anyone who mediated and prayed on the themes of the Crucifixion and resurrection would receive 100 days indulgence. The plaque inside the box reads: "Thy Kingdom Come 100 Days Indulgence Each Time Pius IX, 14th June 1877".
